What are the different types of massages?

  • Swedish (General Relaxation) Massage - Swedish massage is a gentle type of full-body massage that’s ideal for people who are new to massage, are sensitive to touch, or simply want a relaxing massage with light to medium pressure.

  • Duo (Couples) Massage - Duo massage is simply two people in the same room with two therapists and two tables. Also called couples massage this is intended for anyone that would like to get a massage with someone else in the room. This could be your best friend, sister, mother, or whoever you want.

  • Deep Tissue Massage - Deep tissue massage uses more pressure than a Swedish massage. It’s a good option if you have chronic muscle problems, such as soreness, injury, or imbalance. It can help relieve tight muscles, chronic muscle pain, and anxiety. During a deep tissue massage, your massage therapist will use slow strokes and deep finger pressure to relieve tension from the deepest layers of your muscles and connective tissues.

  • Hot Stone Massage - Hot stone massage is best for people who have muscle pain and tension or who simply want to relax. This type of therapeutic massage is similar to a Swedish massage, only the massage therapist uses heated stones instead of or in addition to their hands. It eases muscle tension, improves blood flow, and relieves pain by using heated stones.

  • Decompression Massage / Cupping Therapy - This therapy involves using plastic or silcone cups that create suction on your skin and muscles to pull out the lactic acid and release the tension in your body. This can be very intense and leave marks on your body from the suction cups. You should speak with your therapists to understand if this is the right treatment for you.

  • Assisted Stretching - The therapist will help you stretch by guiding you through a set of stretches and applying extra pressure to help you stretch beyond what you could achieve on your own. Combining this with a massage can help you achieve better mobility.

  • Chair Massage - This type of massage will have you fully clothed and sitting in a chair with your face in a cradle and can last anywhere from 15-30 mins. This can be good for a quick lunchtime relaxation or for someone that is not comfortable with full body massage.

  • Prenatal Massage - This type of massage will use special techniques and positioning with support for your body throughout pregnancy. You should consult a doctor before receiving a massage while pregnant.

  • Sports Massage - Sports massage will typically be a more focused massage targeting a specific area that an athlete struggles with due to the sports they play. It can also be a full-body massage as well. Pressure will be more deep tissue to release these overworked muscle groups.

  • Craniosacral Massage Therapy - Craniosacral massage therapy is a series of gentle massage-like manipulations of the skull, spinal column, and sacrum. The goal of this bodywork is to relieve compression in these areas which in turn alleviates stress and pain throughout the body.
